An unusual feature of geology results in colliding rivers at Glide, Oregon:
The Little River and the north Umpqua River meet head on.

Both the Umpqua River and the Little River are easily recognized in this photograph although that is not usually the case. Because of the recent heavy rains, the little river is murky. Since this condition exists in the creeks that flow into the river, I assume it's because of clear cut logging in the upper reaches of the Little River watershed. Regardless, the cause, it's interesting to so graphically see the phenomenon.

The Wayside for the colliding rivers of the Umpqua River and the Little River located in Glide, Oregon is easy to see whether heading east or west on Hwy 138. If you're heading east, cross the bridge - this would be the first bridge you come to in Glide (after the Chevron Station) and turn left across the highway onto the first street. I'm sorry, for now I can't think of the name of that street. Although the name does have the word loop in it. Just know that it's the first street to your left after crossing the bridge. If you're heading west, turn right just before the second bridge in Glide. The wayside includes a viewing area, trails, and a nice bathroom. Also, it is right across the street from the North Umpqua Ranger Station.

Any questions?

The North Umpqua Ranger Station and Information Center for the North Umpqua and Little River section of the Umpqua National Forest are just across the street from the colliding rivers. Phone: 541-496-3534.
