In Oregon, take the pass
most convenient ... all are beautiful.

If you're traveling to the retreat from the Willamette Valley Hwy 58, or the Willamette Pass, as it's also known, is quickest. When it connects with 97, head south. The Cascade Mountains run north to south in Oregon. After Chemult, just south of the cutoff for Crater Lake, look to your right for Mt. Thielsen & later look for Mt Scott.

As an alternative pass, and the one I find the most beautiful, travel east on Hwy 138. Begin at Reedsport, Oregon if you like and travel along the Umpqua River to Sutherlin where you'll connect with I - 5.. Head south on I - 5 until Roseburg, take the exit for Diamond Lake and you'll connect with Hwy 138, the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway. Travel east, following the N Umpqua, a wild and scenic river. Stop at the wayside in Glide & see the Little River collide with theUmpqua. There are several waterfalls with hiking trails along this river, and many can be seen as you travel 138.

138 intersects with the north entrance to Crater Lake. If you want to drive through the park, take this road and travel around the rim until you see the signs for Hwy 62. When you reach Hwy 62; turn left and follow it until you see the signs for Chiloquin.

The north entrance usually opens in June with the eastern rim opening sometime around the 4th of July.

If you want to save the park for another day, it is quicker to stay on 138 and connect with 97 ... not nearly as scenic, but quicker. (Move on ...)
