... Sawyers Bar ... an old mining town in NoWhere ... ... the best preserved mining town in the old west ...
The bridge up ahead offers one the opportunity to travel into the mountains. The road follows Eddy Gulch and stream for a time, then almost turns back on itself to travel up Black Bear Butte. We spoke to a woman in Sawyers Bar last summer who said there was a ranch up there, held in trust until 2040, for those who wanted to live communally. She, with baby in hand, and father hoped to make a new life for themselves with that ranch as a jumping off point. While the road forks in more than one place, assiduous driving could bring you to Cecilville on the south fork of the Salmon, IN Time, if desired. The road connects with the West fork about a mile north of Fouth of July Gulch. As might be imagined, the area abounds with colorful names and a rich history of settlement, bawdy and otherwise. :-)
