... NoWhere on the Outskirts of Sawyers Bar ...The north fork of the Salmon River originates in the Marble Mountain Wilderness Area. Flowing south through the Marble Mountains, it connects with Russian Creek at Finley Site on Sawyers Bar Road. The Klamath National Forest has a campground here; Idlewyld Campground. If you want to hike the length of the north fork of Salmon River in the Marble Mountain Wilderness, turn north off Sawyers Bar Road near Idlewyld. This is an unimproved road, not gravel, just packed dirt. The distance isn't long, perhaps 5 miles. The road ends at Mule Bridge where you'll find a dispersed forest service campground, for which a camping permit is required, and the trailhead. The trail follows the north fork of the Salmon River and then continues on. I have not made this hike myself. I cannot give information on the condition of the trail. As the north fork of the Salmon River nears its source, which appears to be English Lake, the trai veers off and then continues on to other destinations, meeting up with several small mountain lakes, before continuing on. One could hike all over in the Marble Mountain Wilderness on this trail. I would suggest you look for specifics in the site for the Klamath National Forest, but unlike other sites I've enjoyed immensely (the Willamette National Forest to be exact) specifics are very rare on this site. However, a contact us email address is given. You could send an email with specific questions, and I'm certain you'd get an answer. I've tried this approach on several occasions and never been disappointed. :-) | |
