Brad and I had stopped at Cavitt Creek Recreation Area and viewed the waterfalls once before, but had no photographs. I stopped on the way to Shadow Falls, walked around a bit - what I did can't be called hiking - the views are nice. I ate my lunch in the picnic area, viewed and photographed the waterfall. It was a nice recreation excursion.

Cavitt Creek Recreation Area Campground:

Cavitt Creek Recreation Area offers a nice, small, campground on the banks of Cavitt Creek. Directions to Campgrounds in the Little River Watershed.

More specific information about the recreation check with the Roseburg BLM.

Camping Rates:

Camping rates at the campground in Cavitt Creek Recreation Area are quite reasonable: $8.00 a night with a charge of $4.00 a night for additional vehicle. Water is available. The restrooms are easily accessible. I did not try them in the campground, but the restroom in the picnic area is clean and well maintained although it does not have flush toilets. The campground boasts a live in host, so any concerns one might have can be easily addressed.

This campground and the campgrounds at Wolf Creek and Coolwater are the options for camping in this area, unless you want to camp in the forest at Lake in the Woods or Hemlock mountain lakes. The trailheads for Yakso and Hemlock Waterfalls are accessed at Lake in the Woods Campground. Grotto Waterfall is out in that area too, but with nothing of the proximity found in the hiking trails for Yakso Waterfall, Hemlock Waterfall and a third I just found out about, located between both lakes. That's three hiking trails to waterfalls within easy distance and either of the campgrounds at the mountain lakes. The campgrounds offer running water, camping sites, picnicking tables and of course, the hiking trails. :)

Both Cavitt Creek Waterfall and the trailhead for Shadow Waterfall are accessed off Cavitt Creek Road.

The well-maintained gravel road that leads up into the Cascade Mountains to Shadow Waterfalls begins just upstream from Cavitt Creek Campground.
