Hiking trails at the Salt Creek Waterfalls Wayside

Too Much Bear Lake is a small mountain lake found on the Salt Creek Hiking Trail and it's easy to find.

Northwest Forest Pass required. Obtainable from the box in front of the restrooms at Salt Creek Waterfalls wayside.

To find Too Much Bear Lake: Park to the left of the restrooms at the Salt Creek Waterfalls Wayside. Depending on how far you park to the left of the restrooms, you'll see picnic tables, the creek and a bridge crossing the creek. Cross the bridge. The trail curves around and up to the right. Just follow it. In no time and little effort you'll be on the top of the bluffs for the waterfall. Walk on over. There's no railing here, just to let you know so you can be prepared if you're traveling with chldren. Enjoy the wonder of standing on the cliffs above Salt Creek Waterfalls and looking off into the mountains, looking down into the gorge ... Get back on the trail, you'll see the spur for Twoo Much Bear Lake going off to the left. It's right there on the bluff. If you walk 20 - 30 feet on the trail without seeing this spur, you've gone too far. Once you've seen the lake, continue on the well marked trail for many other scenic views, not the least being Diamond Creek Waterfalls and lower Diamond Creek (both of which are pictured on the site) and Vivian Lake.

And don't forget, the Willamette National Forest offers many recreation opportunities for the water enthusiast: Sailing, Fishing, Swimming, Picnicking and more. The area offers hiking trails and waterfalls in the Willamette National Forest at Salt Creek Falls and at Waldo Lake nearby, as well as, the beautiful scenery of the Cascade Mountains.

If you're heading west on the Willamette Pass, the route given on the site goes east, you might want to connect with the West Cascades National Scenic Byway. Travel Directions, Map: page 1 and page 2, and Scenery: offering mountains, hardened lava flows, wild and scenic rivers, waterfalls, hiking trails, hot springs, old growth forests, mountain lakes, forest service campgrounds.

The West Cascades National Scenic Byway provides easy access to the Three Sisters Wilderness, the Mt Jefferson Wilderness and the Mt Washington Wilderness, all located in the Willamette National Forest.
