One can reach the summit of Pilot Butte either by driving or hiking. The hiking trail makes a 2 mile loop, and as I understand it, most people climb up either the trail or the road then walk down the other. The road is paved. There are a few parking spaces at the top and a vault toilet. The road makes a ring around the summit, and within it, at the top, find the viewing platform, from there one can see expansive views all around Bend, Oregon: The Cascade Mountains to the west and the high desert to the east. I've included no photos of Oregon's high desert to the east because of the lowering clouds.
