An account in the book, In the Land of Grasshopper Song , an autobiography of two intrepid women Indian agents for the Karuk Tribe in the Klamath Mountains of northern California, the rapids are called waterfalls. The natives, Steve especially, were described as standing on the rocks in the waterfall, catching eels, a delicacy. The women agents for the tribe, certainly bold and fearless themselves, saw this feat as especially daring, and one who excelled as being heroic almost.
