The Catholic Church,
established in 1855

Located on the Hill in the
mining town of Sawyers Bar

Following the river downstream, we arrived in Sawyers Bar in California. I saw a sign that said, "Historic Church 1/4 mile". We looked for the church. We asked a woman; she knew nothing about it. Finally, we saw it, hidden in the trees up on a hill: This is the famous Catholic Church spoken of on the plaque placed on the stone in front of the old city hall.

Like all old churches, the church
and the graveyard share the same plot of land.

Lots of history in this small piece of ground, miners and their families. Family plots are separated from one another by this wonderful iron fencing. The place of manufacture is stamped on the fence: Springfield - Illinois, I presume. Nothing is made like that today. Of course, it's rusting now.
